How to make “Yogurt Toast”, a new obsession of…

But where does this sudden passion of TikTokers for toast come from ?! With millions of likes on social media, sliced bread-based recipes are living their hour of glory. Or, with toast with avocado stuffed with eggs (avocado toast with grated eggs) – not too green – we prefer the famous Toasted yogurt, new dear breakfast. In a few weeks, the recipe videos posted under this hashtag have garnered more than 23 million views, endlessly reviewed by platform users.

The dish in question has the good taste of being simple and gourmet at the same time, vaguely evoking the taste of French bread, in a less refined and more consistent version. And contrary to what his name suggests, it’s not about spreading yogurt on a piece of toast! The idea is rather to become a thin layer cream cream (kallës), to be baked on bread in order to obtain the texture of a cake.

To make it, you only need a little yogurt, an egg, cinnamon and honey, as well as a selection of seasonal fruits. To test the original version, garnished with blueberries, we will have to wait until summer or use frozen fruit (this also works). Thus, many versions have appeared on TikTok: culinary influencer Caitlin Shoemaker (alias Frommybowl) used grapefruit slices in particular, while Tickoker Wellnesswhispers tested a version with cocoa. However, many of the most popular videos, like those by influencers Feel Good Foodie and Vivianne Café, are basic versions, with as few ingredients as possible.

Basic recipes

Based on Tik Tok videos by Vivianne Café and Feel Good Fodie.

Ingredients:

  • 2 fairly thick toasts (full or white)
  • 60 g Greek yogurt or integral
  • 1 whole egg or 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Fruits of your choice (small slices if possible. Red fruits are most suitable, preferably in the frozen version when not in season). Chocolate chips can also do the trick.

Preparation:

Preheat your oven to 190 degrees.

Using the back of a spoon, lightly press the bread to flatten it slightly. This will allow the cream to spread more easily.

Combine yogurt, egg, maple syrup and cinnamon and then mix well. Toss or spread this mixture on your two toasts.

Then arrange some fruit, then bake for 10 minutes. It is necessary that the edges of the cream layer have become slightly golden and have been glued behind the bread.

When the toast comes out of the oven, feel free to pour more maple syrup or honey on it or sprinkle with a little powdered sugar. Eating while it is hot.

Enjoy your lunch!
